Filing a 2025 return? Keep these dates and documents straight

The 2026 filing season covers 2025 income. Filing and payment deadlines are not always the same.

Which year are you filing?

Returns filed during the 2026 filing season generally report income earned in 2025. Do not apply the 2026 brackets to that return: the lowest full-year federal rate for 2025 was 14.5%.

The 2026 deadlines have passed

Most individuals had an April 30, 2026 filing and payment deadline. Self-employed individuals and their spouses or common-law partners generally had until June 15 to file, but payment remained due April 30. These are historical dates for the 2025 return, not the next filing season.

Gather the records

Collect income slips and supporting documents before filing. Check copies in your CRA account and contact an issuer if a slip is missing. Consult the CRA for your situation if a return or payment is overdue.
